New positions for hiring:

The Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating and maintaining a welcoming atmosphere for newcomers who have decided to reside in Southwest Saskatchewan.

On our tenth year as a non-profit organization, we are given the opportunity to expand our programs and our staffing capacity. We are in the process of hiring four positions, all starting on June 1, 2020.

As an organization, we are diverse, vibrant, and welcoming. We are passionate in the work that we do and we care for our clients and the community as a whole. The following positions are now available for hiring:

1. Administrative Assistant

This is a casual position with an average of 15-20 hours per week. Directly reporting to the Executive Director, the Admin Assistant will be responsible for the following:

Responsible for doing in-take work for clients; Assisting with filing and collating all documents and records; Responsible for receiving and checking financial claims from staff, and submitting the same to the ED for approval; Assisting in preparing reports, research, and program delivery; Coordinating schedules of all Staff, Performing receptionist role when required. Other tasks as may be assigned by the ED.

The candidate will have a minimum two years post secondary education in a related field or a relevant combination of academics and experience. Additional requirements include: A clean Criminal Record, with Vulnerable Sector Check; Computer literacy is required; Fluency in another language will be an asset.

2. Settlement Worker

Directly reporting to the Executive Director, the Settlement Worker will be responsible for the following: Facilitate one-on-one initial needs assessment and assist clients in identifying and assessing their strengths and needs; Assist newcomers in developing action plans related to their settlement goals and needs; Provide information and general orientation to assist newcomer families with issues of everyday living; Assist newcomers in identifying community resources and services that are relevant to their settlement needs; Facilitate appropriate referrals and access to community services; Provide information and orientation sessions, workshops, meeting opportunities to clients in order for them to better understand Canadian systems; Promote culturally sensitive links between community agencies and newcomer families; Provide required services in a timely and flexible manner that responds to newcomers’ circumstances and needs; Facilitate Citizenship education to newcomers; Consult with community agencies on settlement and culture issues affecting immigrant /refugee families; Maintain accurate and complete files of clients and programs, and prepare reports as required by funding agreements and the organization in accordance with its policies and procedures; Develop and conduct survey with clients to determine the effectiveness of services delivery, and use survey results in further improvement of services; Participate in meetings, workshops, trainings and conferences.

The successful candidate will have:

Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills; Experience in working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds: Work experience in a client-orientated position or related field targeting immigrant and refugee families; Knowledge of settlement related issues facing immigrants and refugee youth, children and families: Knowledge of local and regional government and community programs and services; Knowledge of immigration laws and procedures; Strong organizational and presentation skills; Strong leadership skills and ability to work with a team and volunteers; Computer skills with knowledge of Windows, MS Office, email and internet. Digital Literacy; Fluency in an additional language will also be considered an asset;Willing to work evenings or weekends when necessary.

The candidate will have a Post-Secondary education, preferably in the human services field, and 2 to 3 years related work experience; Additional requirements include: a criminal record check, clean Criminal Record, with Vulnerable Sector Check, valid class 5 driver’s license, and a clean driver abstract. Fluency in another language will be an asset. Regional travel will be required.

3. Community Connections Worker

Directly reporting to the Executive Director, the Community Connections Worker will be responsible for the following:

Promoting and enhancing community connections and welcoming communities by connecting newcomers with the broader community, and by engaging the southwest areas’ diverse community members and organizations, in the process of supporting newcomers; Providing opportunities for skills development; Facilitating increased confidence and social well being among clients and the community; Creating Welcoming Communities through the organization & delivery of various programs and activities; Collaborating with organizations to provide opportunity for newcomers to participate in the community; Organizing & facilitating workshops & learning circles; Writing process documents, developing manuals & brochures, as required; Potential funding source research & grant proposal writing; Increasing community’s awareness of newcomers’ needs and contributions through various programs and events; Providing support to organizations that enhance their ability to serve newcomers and foster a welcoming community; Recruiting, training & providing ongoing support for volunteers; Performing general office duties, as required; Record keeping & reporting.

The candidate will have a Post-Secondary education, preferably in the human services field, and 2 to 3 years related work experience; Additional requirements include: a clean Criminal Record, with Vulnerable Sector Check, valid class 5 driver’s license, and a clean driver abstract. Fluency in another language will be an asset. Regional travel will be required.

4. Local Immigration Partnership (LIPs) Coordinator

The Local Immigration Partnership (LIPs) Coordinator is responsible for the oversight of the LIPs, the goal of which is to enhance collaboration, coordination and strategic planning at the community level in order to foster more welcoming and inclusive communities and improve settlement and integration outcomes for newcomers. Additionally, the LIPs coordinator is responsible for the coordination and oversight of the LIP Steering Committee as all other committees and networks under the program.

The Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) Coordinator will have the following responsibilities:

Liaise with organizations and newcomer hubs to develop partnerships for organized outreach and LIP committees; Facilitate monthly meetings of partners and stakeholders to stimulate development of innovative and collaborative action among stakeholders; Consult, guide and supervise the implementing partner organizations in developing all of the project deliverables to ensure that the project meets and exceeds the set targets; Initiate research on settlement priorities for the SW SK region and suggest intervention sectors to enhance the newcomers’ cultural and community integration that will feed into LIP strategic planning; Organize and participate in Immigration oriented events; Coordinate research streams for further funding and work closely with the Contribution Agreement holder to develop grant proposals based on strategic needs; Work closely with the project partners to ensure coordinated progress on all project components. Participate in scheduled teleconference meeting with other LIPs from the Prairies and Northern Territories region. Complete quarterly and yearly report for funders; Design evaluation tools utilizing the measures outlined in the LIP proposal; Coordinate research streams for further funding and work closely with the Executive Director to develop grant proposals based on strategic needs; Work closely with the project partners to ensure coordinated progress on all project components; Research on current trends and gaps and implement innovative ideas based on strategic planning; Develop and maintain a website for the LIPs; Presentations to stakeholders such as the Municipal Government and community stakeholders.

The candidate will have: Degree in community development or non‐profit management is desired; University Degree in Human Services, Social Sciences, or Community Development or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; degree or experience in human resources and community organizing would be an asset; At least 2 years experience in related field. Additional requirements include: clean Criminal Record, with Vulnerable Sector Check, valid class 5 driver’s license, and a clean driver abstract. Fluency in another language will be an asset. Regional travel will be required.
