Frontier Days: Culture Stage
Frontier Days CULTURE STAGE!
Join us for a celebration of cultures through music and dance on Friday, June 27th, and Saturday, June 28th. We will have performances from various cultural groups located in Swift Current and Southwest Saskatchewan.
This year, the Culture Stage is located inside the Stockade building (#14 on the Frontier Days map).
Performances start at 1:30 pm and will end shortly after 6:30 pm.
Our schedule includes:
Filipino Folk dance & songs
Neekaneet First Nation Dancers & Singers
Bollywood Western dance
Bengali songs
Ukrainian songs
Traditional Indian dance
We would love to see you all there!

SWIS Summer Day Camps
Looking to play and explore Swift Current and the surrounding area? This summer, SWIS will be running their Summer Day Camp Program with fun activities and field trips! The Day Camps are open to students in grades 4-12.
Camps will run every Tuesday & Thursday from 9:00 am-12:00 pm
The first day of camp starts on July 8th, and the program will end in August

Culinary Connections
Join us on June 23 at the Living Sky Casino for a celebration that bridges cultures through food. This unique food festival will bring together culture enthusiasts, long-standing residents, newcomers, and Indigenous communities for a celebration of shared stories, food, and connections. Every bite tells a story and helps to build stronger relationships with Indigenous peoples.
As part of this event, attendees will have the opportunity to:
Explore a commemorative cookbook and a local history handbook.

Multicultural Family Fun Day- Festival of Cultures 2025
We are so excited to invite you all to join us at our MULTICULTURAL FAMILY FUN DAY! This event is happening on Sunday, June 22, at Riverside Park from 10:00 am-2:00 pm. It is open to everyone in the community; no registration is required.
The celebration will include: Carnival games and inflatables, cultural performances, food and products from vendors, crafts and workshops, HIPPY Celebration of Learning, open stage, free popcorn and cotton candy, face painting, Henna Tattoo artist.
With all of these fun activities, this is an event that you and your family do not want to miss!
We are also looking for volunteers to help us with supervising games and the set-up/take-down.

Annual Lunch Fundraiser & Multicultural Party
On May 26, we hosted our Annual Lunch Fundraiser—a vibrant afternoon of community, culture, and connection. Guests enjoyed a delicious meal catered by Kusina Swift Current, followed by a lively multicultural party that featured a special performance celebrating diversity and togetherness. The event brought people from all walks of life together in support of our programs, and we are incredibly thankful to everyone who joined us. Your participation and generosity help us continue building a stronger, more inclusive community.

Bridging Equity in the Community
On March 27, we hosted Bridging Equity in the Community at the Great Plains College gym—an engaging and impactful event focused on fostering inclusivity, understanding, and meaningful dialogue. The day featured a series of interactive workshops designed to explore topics around equity, diversity, and community-building. Participants had the opportunity to learn, share experiences, and connect with others committed to creating a more inclusive and supportive environment for all.

International Women’s Day- Movie Night
On March 7, 2025 we recognized International Women’s Day with a community movie night featuring Hidden Figures. Each woman received a rose and a handwritten note of affirmation, and the event closed with a reflective conversation, creating a meaningful and empowering shared experience.

Career Expo 2025
The Welcome Centre hosted its Annual Career Expo! Clients and employers were able to establish valuable connections. Several of our clients received job offers, while many others left the event with promising leads and interviews. Overall, a great success!

Winter Family Fun Day
HIPPY and SWIS teamed up for an event sponsored by Jumpstart (Canadian Tire) to celebrate their anniversary. Families enjoyed playing, sledding, skating, and some hot cocoa and coffee together!

"A Heartfelt Welcome"- Valentine's Day Celebration
On February 14, we celebrated Valentine’s Day with a fun and heartwarming community event! Guests enjoyed DIY card-making stations where they crafted personalized Valentine’s cards, a festive photo booth that captured sweet memories, and a selection of delicious snacks. It was a wonderful opportunity to get creative, connect with others, and share the love. Thank you to everyone who joined us and made the day so special!

Cocoa and Caroling
HIPPY organized Cocoa and Carols at the Newcomer Welcome Centre. Three choirs performed, including the HIPPY kids. Families enjoyed hot chocolate, food, and gifts from Santa, making it a joyful celebration!

Career Fair

SWIS & HIPPY Halloween Face Painting
SWIS and HIPPY are inviting newcomer students and HIPPY parents to join us for an exciting Halloween Face Painting Workshop led by the talented artist, Theo Houghtaling! Whether you’re new to Halloween or just looking for some creative fun, this workshop will be a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills and explore the traditions of Halloween.
In the workshop, Theo will guide you through various face painting techniques, demonstrating how the paints work and sharing tips on using brushes and sponges. You’ll then have the chance to choose your own designs, and Theo will coach you through bringing them to life. Whether you're aiming for spooky or playful, this workshop will give you the tools to create something unique in preparation for your Halloween parties and trick-or-treating. We encourage you to come dressed in your Halloween costume!
The Swift Current Art Gallery will provide face painting supplies for the workshop at no cost to participants.

Vaccine Clinic
Come on down to the Welcome Centre on October 22nd between 10 am and 1 pm for a vaccine clinic hosted by the SHA. Both Covid and Flu shots will be available for children and adults. There is no appointment necessary. Bring your health card if you have one.

Pickleball Clinic
On September 24th at 6:00 pm, the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre will be hosting a Pickleball Clinic with instruction from the Swift Current Pickleball Club. We will meet at the outdoor pickleball courts at Riverside Park, located just off of 6th Ave SE and South Railway St E along the Chinook Parkway. Limited equipment will be available to use, so if you have your own, please bring it with you.

Culture Fest
From 9:00 am - 2:00 pm, Downtown Swift Current Market Square will be bustling with cultural activities including a market, henna tattoos, blacksmith demos, hands-on pottery activities, and a kite-making workshop. There will be cultural performances like Indian dancers, African drummers, Filipino folk dancers, and Cowboy Poetry - all on the Innovation Stage! Additionally, there will be an Indigenous reading circle, orange shirt decorating, and an ArchaeoCaravan interactive display. Admission is FREE!

September Women's Group - Métis Finger Weaving
Come and learn the art of Métis Finger weaving from Elder Barb Parchman. This event will take place at the Welcome Centre on September 19th at 7 pm. Please register by September 13th so that we can purchase the supplies in time. This event is for women over the age of 17.

Legal Literacy #2 - Family Law

Learn to Camp
REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED
The Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre will be hosting a Learn to Camp program for families on August 17th at Lac Pelletier Regional Park. This program will run from 11:00 am-4:00 pm, but families are welcome to stay later in the day if they wish.
During this program activities will include:
Métis history & Bannock making
Fire Building
Outdoor Cooking
Tent Set-up
Lawn Games
Swimming
And More!
Families will be responsible for their own transportation to the park. Your park entry permit will be paid for by the Welcome Centre.
Lunch will be provided, but if you wish to stay at the park for supper and into the evening, you will be responsible for your own food at that time.

Teen Writers Workshop
SWIS is excited to bring back our Teen Writer's Workshop for our 5th consecutive summer!
With direction from a facilitator, young writers will work on skills needed to be effective communicators. This includes word choice, use of grammar, and writing for different applications, resumes, essays, presentations and public speaking. It is also a great way to improve communication skills.
This program is open to students who are incoming Grades 9-12. It will run for two weeks from August 12 to August 22, Monday through Thursday from 9:00am to 12:00pm, in-person at the Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre. We hope you will take advantage of this great opportunity to support your child’s learning and skills development.
