Driving Help

Having a driver’s license is a very important part of settling in Southwest Canada. Because of the limited availability of public transportation and long distances between communities, it helps to have your own vehicle. Before you can get behind the wheel, you’ll need to go through driving lessons to learn the rules of the road in Canada.

Newcomers seeking a driver’s license will need to attend a required 6 hours of in-class driving lessons. These classes are normally held on Saturdays every 4-6 weeks. During these classes, you will become familiar with signs and scenarios you will encounter on the road. This is very important as you will be tested on your understanding of traffic and sign knowledge while getting your license.

To register for in-class driving lessons, see the sign-up sheet in the Welcome Centre.

To support our newcomers in receiving their license, we will provide you with contacts for driver instructors for scheduling your in-car sessions. These in-car sessions are where you will apply your in-class learnings while out on the road. Your instructor will be there to educate you as you go and help to improve your driving performance.
