Language Explorers' Club

The Language Explorers' Club is a weekly program for school-aged newcomers who would like an additional chance to practice and strengthen their English skills.

The group has enjoyed a varied program of meetings and outings since it began in March 2016, and members have enjoyed the added bonus of making new friends.
With classroom time focusing on themes like weather, money, directions and moods, Language Explorers' Club members learn and use vocabulary useful for a wide variety of situations.
Through games and activities, Language Explorers have many chances to socialise with one another, all while improving their language skills. Reading, writing, listening and speaking are all included in the program, and participants are also assisted in perfecting their English grammar with help from experienced elementary and ESL teachers, Michelle and Becky.
Regular excursions and outdoor activities are also a part of the program, giving many real and spontaneous opportunities to practice English. The summer vacation was an especially fun time, with visits to Treasure Valley Farm near Cadillac and the Saskatchewan Science Centre in Regina. Throughout the program the group has visited some of the most important places in Swift Current too, such as the markets, museum and library.
Overall, the program is designed to help students feel at home in their new city, feel confident with their emerging English skills, and meet others from around the world, now making their homes in Southwest Saskatchewan.
The program is funded by the Community Initiatives Fund, with added support from Swift Current Kiwanis.
