Description
Settlement Worker in Schools (SWIS) Program assists newcomer students and their families adjust to the new school environment and the community. The SWIS worker will be under the direct supervision of the Executive Director and will be responsible for the following:
1.Establish and maintain contact with the newcomer families in order to determine their needs and issues, including conducting needs assessment and referrals;
2.Connect families to resources and services in the schools and the community;
3.Facilitate access to resources and services where there are language and cultural barriers;
4.Promote cultural sensitivity links between school staff and newcomer families.
5.Advocate for clients in order to ensure that proper services are delivered;
6.Plan and deliver after school programs, activities and leadership camps for clients;
7.Reporting and grant proposal writing;
8. Able to work from home when the need arises.
9. Other related tasks.

Travel within the southwest region is required for this position, applicant must have a valid driver's license and own vehicle. Experience working in a multicultural setting and/or knowledge of another language is an asset.

Description
The Southwest Newcomer Welcome Centre is a regional non-profit organization that assists in the settlement and retention of newcomers to Southwest Saskatchewan. The Information Services Advisor is an office position and will maintain the hours of the Centre and be the first point of contact when entering the Centre. The successful applicant is expected to start by June 20, 2020. The continuation of the position is dependent on availability of funding. Duties and responsibilities include:

1.Maintaining flexible hours of Newcomer Welcome Centre operations
2.Answering general questions from newcomers, employers & the public
3.Directing & assisting newcomers in locating & accessing relevant information (online &/or printed information materials & resources)
4.Assisting newcomers to access relevant programs & services, including making referrals & booking appointments with external agencies
5.Communicating emerging issues/trends/needs to Manager/Coordinator
6.Managing & booking appointments with the other programs
7.Keeping an activity log including: numbers of newcomers, type & frequency of inquiries, availability & access to services & programs, referrals & bookings, use of Centres facilities & other information as needed
8.Ensuring relevant knowledge & familiarity with local, regional, government &/or community programs & services
9. Assist with Fundraising Efforts for NWC operations
10. Responsible for documenting client contact & for developing monthly reports on activities and services
11. Ability to work from home when necessary.
12. Other tasks that maybe assigned.

Experience in working in settlement services and fluency in an additional language will be considered an asset.

Educational Requirements:

Minimum two years post secondary education in a related field or a relevant combination of academics and experience
